Auckland FC’s Knight of Celebration

Auckland FC enjoyed a knight of celebration, acknowledging the teams, players, and moments that made our A-League and Inaugural OFC Pro League campaigns memorable.

Louis Verstraete took home top honours, winning the club’s A-League MVP award. Louis dominated in the middle of the park this season and was a reliable figure in the side, missing only 2 games all season.

Sam Cosgrove led the goalscoring charts with 11 goals, taking home the A-Leagues Golden Boot award in his first A-League campaign with the club.

Jessie Randall was a standout among fans and his fellow teammates as he was voted Players’ and Members’ Player of the Season. Jesse is signing off his time in Auckland amongst the goals and the awards.

Auckland enjoyed their time against the Nix this season, with the Round 4 win in Wellington with nine men winning the club’s A-League Moment of the Season, and Jake Girdwood-Reichs clearance turned goal in Round 18 coming in as a runner-up.

Speaking of memorable goals, Felipe Gallegos went one-and-done with his stunning effort on the volley against Adelaide United in Round 23. His only goal of the campaign was good enough to win A-League Goal of the Season honours.

The OFC Pro League squad has enjoyed a successful campaign to date, finishing top of the league table with a finals series still to play.

Ronan Wynne voted as the star of the campaign, taking home the club’s OFC MVP award.

Liam Gillion was in and around both the A-League and OFC squads this season. Liam was clinical in his time with the OFC squad, winning the club’s OFC Golden Boot with 5 goals in 12 appearances.

Liam’s solo effort against South Melbourne, in which the winger picked up the ball on the edge of his own box and took it all the way into South Melbourne’s goal, was the runaway winner for the OFC Goal of the Season award.

Jake Girdwood-Reich was the winner of the Emerging Talent award, the award was joint with players from both the A-League and OFC squads being eligible for the award. The 21-year-old was mature beyond his years this season as he filled in impressively across the back line, making it easy to forget how young he still is.

The focus for both squads turns to the business end of their seasons, with both teams competing to win their respective competitions.

The A-League squad hosts an elimination final against Melbourne City at Go Media Stadium on Saturday, 2nd May, with a spot in the semi-finals on the line.

The OFC Pro League squad finished top of the league phase with the leader’s group to play from May 6-12 in Auckland for a spot in the semi-finals up for grabs.
