Back of the Net: Auckland FC Ticket Holders to Enjoy Free Public Transport to All AFC Games

Auckland FC has teamed up with Auckland Transport (AT) to provide travelling fans with free bus and train travel to all 13 home games this season.

Starting with Auckland FC’s first home game of the season on Saturday, October 17, fans will be able to show their match ticket to travel to and from Go Media Stadium on Auckland’s bus and rail network at no extra cost. Free travel will be available from 1.30pm until the end of service that evening.

The opening of City Rail Link (CRL) has made it easier than ever for football fans from across Auckland to get to Go Media Stadium, with three new lines unlocking new and better connections, including direct train service from west Auckland for the first time.

Auckland FC CEO Nick Becker is excited to offer fans an easy and reliable way to get to Go Media Stadium.

“This is a great partnership for the club and the fans. We know many already use the train and buses, and providing them with integrated ticketing just makes that journey and experience much more efficient. For the many families that are keen to attend our games, it makes it much more affordable, and we look forward to seeing everyone using it at our first game,” says Becker.

Self-confessed Auckland FC fan and AT CEO, Stacey van der Putten says it’s now even easier for fans to get on board and support the club.

“We’re excited to be working with Auckland FC to make it easier for fans to get to and from home games using public transport.

“Including public transport as part of a game ticket creates a better experience for fans, helps reduce traffic and parking pressure around the stadium, and encourages more people to choose public transport.

“With the City Rail Link now open, public transport is better connected and more convenient than ever. We look forward to welcoming Auckland FC fans onboard throughout the season and helping them get to the stadium safely and conveniently.”

Auckland FC captain Hiroki Sakai was on hand to attend the official announcement. Sakai, a big fan of public transport, described it as a great idea to help get more fans to the game.

“The City Rail Link means there are more frequent, reliable trains, and we expect this to be an incredibly popular collaboration. We want to thank AT for their support in making it happen.”
