Fans Encouraged to ‘Vote for Pedro’ this Election Day Derby

Next Saturday’s (November 7) election day is more than just a battle between left and right, red versus blue.

Another colossal battle will be raging at Go Media Stadium when Auckland FC take on Wellington Phoenix in the first derby of the season.

In what looks like the most hotly contested elections derbies ever, Auckland FC believes there is only one candidate capable of uniting the city and bringing us the victory we all crave: Pedro Moreira.

Like all good political manifestos, and with a willingness and desire to serve the people and communities of Auckland, Pedro’s campaign comes with a series of pledges.

A vote for Pedro this Election Day Derby means:

  • $20 tickets in the Upper South Stand – giving AFC fans the chance to enjoy a day out at Auckland FC and bringing the noise and atmosphere to Go Media Stadium
  • Free public transport – teaming up with Auckland Transport (AT) to provide fans with free bus and train travel to and from all home games this season
  • Not called Chris – Hipkins, Luxon or Greenacre

Auckland FC CEO Nick Becker said that with so much noise around the election, it was important for the club to provide voters with a candidate they can really get behind.

“For once this looks like it is going to be a competitive derby. We are keen to make it 7 – 0 and continue our excellent winning streak against Wellington,” says Becker.

“So while those down in Wellington are running around worried about coalition agreements and who will end up as PM, we want the people of Auckland to come out and support the team and their own PM, Pedro Moreira.”

Becker said the $20 ticket offer was particularly important to the club.

“We know how much having the Upper South Stand full means to fans and what it does for the atmosphere inside Go Media Stadium,” added Becker.

“With $20 tickets and free public transport, a day out at Auckland FC offers incredible value for money and one that more Aucklanders can get out to experience.

“So however you vote, vote with your feet and get down to Go Media Stadium to get behind Auckland FC.”

Auckland FC are currently unbeaten in the six contests between the two clubs with an aggregate score of 20-4. The last game back in February finished 5-0 to Auckland.

The $20 tickets are now on sale and can be purchased here. Numbers are limited and expected to sell quickly.

Free travel will be available from two hours prior to doors opening through to the end of daily public transport services. Fans and members will just need to show their game day ticket to AT staff when boarding their service and remember to keep their ticket for the ride home.
