Auckland FC is on the hunt for a mascot. One that represents the city of Auckland, the club and our record-breaking first year as Auckland FC.
But whether it’s big and blue, fluffy and cute or something completely out of the ordinary, is being left for you to decide.
We want you to submit your best suggestions via the link here. We will then shortlist our favourite five designs for consultation before a final decision is made in early July.
The competition is open to all ages, although under 16s will need a parent to submit on their behalf. You don’t need to be an expert designer either, so get out the pens and pencils, dial up your drawing skills and get ready to submit.
Simply submit with a sketch, drawing or a clear written description to bring the idea to life.
“This is more than just a costume. Our mascot will lead the charge on matchdays, visit schools and communities, star in club content, and become a symbol for generations of Auckland FC fans,” says Auckland FC CEO, Nick Becker.
“But that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun with it. It is something American sports do really well so if you’re looking for inspiration I would start there.”
Ideally the mascot should be relevant to Auckland – whether that’s an animal (land or marine), landmark, cultural reference, myth, or just general vibe.
It should also be future proof, with the ability to show up for other Auckland FC teams.
Participants have until Friday, June 24 at 5pm to submit their entries. The five shortlisted designs will each win a $200 Auckland FC retail voucher, with the winning design receiving four Black Knight Club tickets to the opening season’s game and a chance to meet the mascot in person.
Auckland sports team have a long and storied history when it comes to mascots; seagulls, harbour dogs, potatoes and volcanoes have all featured.
“I’m not against having an anthropomorphic vegetable as a mascot,” says Becker.
“But in Auckland it has been done before and ideally, we want something original. So share you best ideas and good luck.”

All successful applicants will be contacted by the club so we can get a good understanding of your concept and idea.
We will then shortlist our five favourites before the winner is decided by an AFC panel on July 4. The panel decision is final.
