Luis Toomey Departs Auckland FC

Luis Toomey has departed Auckland FC following the end of his contract.

Toomey will be fondly remembered by the club for his contributions to the team in its inaugural season.

The midfielder was an Auckland FC scholarship player who made eight appearances, even registering an assist on debut in the 2-0 away win over the Wellington Phoenix.

He was memorably on the end of an overly aggressive Alex Rufer challenge in the return fixture in December, a game that the Black Knights went on to win 2-1.

“It was a privilege to be part of Auckland FC’s first season”, says Toomey.

“The journey we went on from the first day of preseason all the way up until the finals was something truly special and exceeded all expectations. I wanted to thank the fans and staff for brining football in Auckland back to life.”

Head coach Steve Corica was full of praise for the player.

“Toomey has been a big part of Auckland FC and made a vital contribution when called upon. He will be missed by players and staff,” said Corica.

“We wish him the very best for the future.”
