Meet the New Auckland FC Coaching Staff

A-League Champions Auckland FC are pleased to introduce the club’s backroom staff ahead of the upcoming season.

Luke Casserly, Rafael Moreira, Nathan Sherlock, and Danny Milosevic have all been announced, joining new Head Coach Pedro Moreira in the dugout.

PEDRO MOREIRA – HEAD COACH

The 51-year-old Moreira began his managerial career in Portugal with S.C.U Torreense in 2022 and then Casa Pia A.C. He was most recently in Uzbekistan with Pakhtakor FC, guiding the club to the later stages of the AFC Asian Champions League and at the beginning of their ride to a second-place finish.

Prior to that, the Portuguese was formerly the Assistant Manager at FC Porto, FC Shakhtar Donetsk and AS Roma, working alongside the highly successful Paulo Fonseca. The pair started working together with F.C Paços Ferreira in 2012/2013 and went on to manage some of Europe’s top sides, winning trophies in Portugal and Ukraine.

Moreira started his career working with various Portuguese youth teams. In 2009 he joined Sporting CP’s youth set-up, supporting with the development of several current Portuguese internationals.

LUKE CASSERLY – ASSISTANT COACH

Casserly is a familiar face at Auckland FC, he was the clubs inaugural Reserves Coach, A-League Second Assistant and the inaugural OFC Pro League Head Coach, going on to win the competition. The Australian International was also previously Head of National Performance at Football Federation Australia.

Most recently in the dugout for Auckland FC’s game against Spurs, Casserly now joins as a key member of Pedro Moreira’s staff for the upcoming A-League season.

RAFAEL MOREIRA – HEAD ANALYST

Rafael Moreira (no relation) arrives alongside Pedro Moreira as the club’s new Head Analyst. Moreira brings experience from working at several top-flight Portuguese sides. He was most recently at top division club Casa Pia A.C, based in Lisbon and prior to that worked with FC Alverca and Amora FC.

NATHAN SHERLOCK – HEAD OF PERFORMANCE

Nathan Sherlock joined Auckland FC late last season and is heading into this season as the A-League Men’s Head of Performance, overseeing the strength, conditioning, injury prevention and recovery of players. Sherlock was formerly in the States with the U.S. Soccer Federation and with previous A-League stints with Brisbane Roar. He brings a significant amount of experience to the role.

DANNY MILOSEVIC – GOALKEEPER COACH

Danny Milosevic signs in as the A-League Men’s squad’s new Goalkeeper Coach. Milosevic has history in Auckland, playing for the New Zealand Knights in 05/06 and was formerly between the sticks in England, on the books with Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the early 2000s. He was most recently Goalkeeper Coach with the Thailand National Team and had previously held similar roles with Perth Glory and the CommBank Matildas.
