It’s a New Zealand derby in the Semi Final of the OFC Pro League, with Auckland FC out to extend their perfect record against South Island United and book a place in the Grand Final, happening this Sunday.
The two sides served up a dress rehearsal for this semi-final clash just last week in the final round of the leaders group, with both teams already all but locked into second and third on the table heading into that fixture.
Auckland headed to the break in front, before two quickfire South Island United goals flipped the contest 2-1. From there, a relentless second-half surge powered the Black Knights to an emphatic 5-2 victory.
Across the three meetings, Auckland have outscored South Island United 11-3, and will be looking to maintain their stranglehold over their rivals when the two sides meet again tomorrow night.
The match is the second semi-final of the day at Go Media Stadium, kicking off at 6:30pm, following the earlier 1:30pm semi-final between South Melbourne and Vanuatu United.
Progression through to the final will boost Auckland FC’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
