Auckland FC wrap up top spot in the OFC Pro League with a comfortable win over PNG Hekari
The match saw Top of the Table Auckland FC against bottom of the table PNG Hekari, with Auckland controlling possession but struggling to break down a compact Hekari defence.
Oscar Faulds was lively early on and remained a constant threat, although he squandered a promising opening chance in the first half. Isa Prins also tested goalkeeper Dave Tomare late in the half.
The breakthrough finally arrived just before halftime, when Faulds made amends by finishing smartly to give Auckland a deserved 1–0 lead. That goal shifted momentum decisively, and Auckland came out after the interval with greater urgency and intent
Their pressure paid off almost immediately in the second half, as Liam Gillion doubled the advantage with a well-taken goal, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. Despite a late effort from Rex Naime that forced a save, Hekari rarely threatened to mount a comeback.
The win secured top spot in the Pro League for Auckland FC with two games to spare, while this result confirms Hekari’s place at the bottom of the standings.
