Scott Morris Arrives at Auckland FC

Goalkeeper Scott Morris has joined Auckland FC from Stoke City.

Morris, 24, grew up in Nelson, first playing for Richmond Athletic before spending time with Wairarapa United, Tasman United, and Hawkes Bay United.

Two outstanding seasons at Christchurch United sealed a move to Stoke City, then in the Championship – the second tier of English football.

Morris returns to New Zealand to join the Black Knights where he will take his place alongside existing goalkeepers Michael Woud and Joseph Knowles.

“It is great to be back home in New Zealand and joining a team with such an energetic and enthusiastic fan base,” says Morris.

“I’ve been following the Auckland FC journey whilst overseas. It has been incredible to witness; nothing like this has existed previously.

“I buzzing to now be joining the team and be a part of what Steve, Terry and Gouldy (goalkeeping coach, Jonathan Gould) have created.”

Following the departure of Alex Paulsen, who has returned to A.F.C Bournemouth, Woud will likely assume the role of first choice ‘keeper.

But nothing is ever guaranteed in football, so Morris will need to be ready to play at a moment’s notice, according to Gould.

“Scott is a great young player with a lot of potential,” says Gould.

“You can be called on at any time as a goalkeeper, and as deputy, it requires a lot of patience, focus, and commitment, despite the potentially limited game time.

“He is going to be a great addition to the team and I look forward to working with him.”
