NBA’s Steven Adams is the latest high-profile investor in Auckland FC

Houston Rockets star Steven Adams becomes the latest in an impressive line-up of investors into the new Auckland A-League team, Auckland FC.

Adams joins Bill Foley, Anna Mowbray, Ali Williams and the recently announced trio of former All Whites, Tim Brown, Winston Reid (former English Premier League player) and Noah Hickey, in the investor line-up.

The announcement follows a recent trend of high-profile US sports stars investing in football, including Larry Nance Jnr and TJ McConnell into Leeds, LeBron James at Liverpool and Tom Brady in Birmingham City.

Majority owner Bill Foley said: “I am delighted to welcome Steven to our ownership group, joining our global network of professional athletes and successful business owners in creating New Zealand’s most exciting sports team. He brings wide-ranging experience in business and sport, and a global perspective from his NBA experience.”

Steven Adams was introduced to the Auckland Football Club by former All Whites and All Birds founder Tim Brown. Adams said: “I’m excited about the potential of what we can accomplish for young people in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, about the grassroots and the community-based approach.”

Auckland FC CEO Nick Becker said: “Steven is a proud Kiwi who has used global sporting pathways to reach the pinnacle of his sport. Our hope is Auckland FC can provide similar opportunities for young boys and girls in NZ. Having someone of Steven’s calibre and experience join the team is a massive boost for the whole club and a significant marker in Auckland FC’s journey.”
