The OFC Pro League finals series is locked in, and Auckland FC know exactly what stands between them and a Grand Final at Eden Park.
After sealing second place in the Leaders Group, the Black Knights will host third-placed South Island United in a winner-takes-all semi-final derby on Wednesday, 20th May, 1:30pm, at Go Media Stadium with the winner locking in their ticket to the Grand Final.
Semi-Final 1: Auckland FC vs. South Island United
For Auckland FC fans, we have the easiest route to the finals. We play familiar foes, in a familiar setting: South Island United on Wednesday, 20th May, 1:30pm at Go Media Stadium. The winner of this match will book their ticket straight to the OFC Pro-League Grand Final.
The more complicated route includes:
The Playoff: A Place in the Semis Up for Grabs
Before the semi-finals get underway, there is unfinished business to settle. In a format that will feel familiar to anyone who was at the A-League Elimination Final, the fourth-placed side from the Leaders Group, Bula FC, will take on the Challengers Group winners Vanuatu United FC for the final semi-final spot. In easy terms, 4th place vs. 5th place.
That playoff kicks off on Sunday, 17th May, 3pm at Go Media Stadium. One match, ninety minutes (plus extra-time and penalties if needed).
Semi-Final 2: Bula FC / Vanuatu United vs. South Melbourne FC
Whoever survives Sunday’s playoff will not have long to celebrate. Leaders Group winners South Melbourne FCÂ are waiting, having earned the lower-placed opponent on the back of a dominant Round 6 campaign. The game kicks off on Wednesday, 20th May, 6:30pm at Go Media Stadium.
The Australian side will be heavy favourites, but finals football has a habit of resetting form guides in a hurry.
The Grand Final: Eden Park, Sunday 24 May
Eden Park will host the OFC Pro League Grand Final on Sunday, 24th May, 3pm, with the two semi-final winners going head-to-head for the trophy.
