After a stand-out season between the sticks for Auckland FC, the club’s keeper, Michael Woud, has committed his future to the city by signing a contract extension.
The extension adds further gloss to the 27-year-old shot-stopper’s already impressive season, which saw him lift the Championship trophy and earn a call-up to the All Whites World Cup squad.
Woud played 28 times for the club this season, keeping nine clean sheets and earning a club record six Player of the Match awards.
“It has been a great season, one of the very best when you consider all that we have achieved as a club, but also for me personally,” says Woud.
“I am from Auckland; it is my home city, so to be able to continue to play football here is a huge honour. The fans, the city, the way everyone has got behind the team has been incredible, so I’m pleased to see it continue.”
Woud was the Black Knight’s very first signing back in May 2024, unveiled as evidence of the club’s commitment to build a team around a core group of talented Kiwis.
Auckland FC Director of Football, Terry McFlynn, was full of praise for the number one, “Michael is an incredibly resilient and hardworking player. Every challenge he has overcome and every opportunity he’s taken.”
“His performances during the finals series were a large part of what earned the club its first championship and him a call-up to the All Whites. We are delighted he is staying at Auckland FC.”
