Auckland FC is teaming up with CUPRA, with the pioneering automotive brand becoming an official motor vehicle partner of Auckland FC.

The two organisations, united in their ambition to do things differently for the positive benefit of Auckland, signed the deal today that, amongst other things, will see the CUPRA logo adorn the shorts of Auckland FC.
“CUPRA and AFC both have a lot in common and share many of the same goals and ambitions. We’re both keen to shake things up in Auckland and are aligned in our desire to grow the game nationally,” says Auckland FC CEO, Nick Becker.
“CUPRA recognises the power of football to bring people together. They already work with a number of high profile clubs around the world and understand what it takes for a young, ambitious brand to succeed.”
The announcement was made at CUPRA’s North Shore, Auckland showroom. In attendance was Auckland FC Head Coach Steve Corica and players; Louis Verstraete, Felipe Gallegos and Guillermo May.
Also in attendance was Luke Meurant, CUPRA General Manager, who said the deal was proof of CUPRA’s aspirations for its presence in New Zealand.
“Like Auckland FC we’re a young brand that is experiencing rapid growth and building a legacy of success in New Zealand,” says Meurant.
“And just like Auckland FC we’re here to challenge the status quo, to shake things up a bit and continue becoming a truly global brand full of opportunity.”
CUPRA, part of the Volkswagen group, alongside brands such as Audi, is one of the world’s fastest growing brands. Already successful and well-established in Europe, the brand is known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to automotive design and performance.
CUPRA partners with FC Barcelona and the Australian Women’s National Soccer Team, known as the Matilda’s, and is also looking to support football in New Zealand.
“This agreement is a big deal for us, the city and football in the country,” added Nick Becker.
“Once again it demonstrates we’re not just here to make up the numbers, but to win.”
Auckland FC is majority owned by Bill Foley, with Ali Williams and Anna Mowbray as local co-owners, and will play their home games at Mt. Smart’s Go Media Stadium.
