Grand Final Hero Commits Future to Auckland FC

Auckland FC is proud to announce that midfielder Cam Howieson has signed a contract extension, committing his future to the club.

The news comes a few weeks after Howieson scored the only goal in the 2026 A-League Grand Final, sealing a 1-0 victory over Sydney FC in front of a sold-out crowd of 28,374 at Go Media Stadium.

The 31-year-old attacking midfielder, who has made Auckland his home for nearly a decade, was one of the club’s inaugural signings back in 2024. Having made 48 appearances across two seasons for Auckland FC. Howieson has been a constant in the engine room of a club that has collected silverware in every season of its existence.

“Auckland is my home. This club is special, the fans are incredible, there is nowhere else I’d rather be,” says Cam Howieson.

“Scoring in front of the port was a dream come true, a moment I will never forget. I am hungry to add more silverware for the fans.”

On the hour mark of the Grand Final, with the match goalless, Howieson delivered a fierce volley that deflected off Sydney FC defender Jordan Courtney-Perkins and past Sydney FC goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares, to send Go Media Stadium into bedlam.

From his performance in the Grand Final, Howieson was unanimously named the 2026 Joe Marston Medal winner, which is awarded to the player of the Grand Final.

Auckland FC Director of Football, Terry McFlynn, paid tribute to the midfielder, saying, “Cam is a proud Aucklander, and you saw that in the Grand Final exactly what he means to Auckland and this squad.”

“We are delighted he is staying at Auckland FC.”
