Marlee François has departed Auckland FC following the end of his contract with the club.
The former Australian U-23 winger joined in January during the club’s inaugural season, going on to make 32 appearances for the Black Knights.
“It’s tough leaving a great group of people here in Auckland. We’ve won two trophies together and created a lot of special memories that will stay with me forever,” said François.
“I will look back fondly, but god willing, there will be more special moments ahead of me and memories to be made.”
François was an exciting winger for the Black Knights, scoring one of the club’s more memorable goals, an ‘Olympico’ directly from a corner against Perth Glory last season on the night Auckland FC lifted the Premiers’ Plate.
After a nervy night in the April rain, the goal relieved the pressure and kick-started the club’s celebrations.
François struggled with various injuries throughout his second season, notably a foot injury picked up away in Sydney back in February that ruled him out for the remainder of the season.
Auckland FC Director of Football, Terry McFlynn, wishes Marlee well with his future endeavours.
“Marlee’s been a great professional, great in the dressing room with his teammates, and we wish him and his family the very best for the future.”
Everyone at the club wishes Marlee well and is grateful for his contributions to the club’s success in our first two seasons.
