Jesse Randall say’s his Farewells to Auckland

Randall departs the club for the FIFA World Cup with the All Whites and will join Scottish side Dundee United after the tournament.

The winger’s time with Auckland FC was his first opportunity at the professional level, and he exceeded all expectations, contributing 15 goals and 9 assists in his two seasons with the club.

His success at the club earned him a trip to North America with New Zealand for the FIFA World Cup and a move to the Scottish Premiership with Dundee United.

“I’ve felt the support so much over the past two years I’ve been here. It’s been incredible, really,” says Randall.

“I want to be remembered as someone who worked really hard for the team and, more as a player who brought a lot of excitement, hopefully, to the fans.

“I won’t forget when I got subbed off, walking off and hearing the fans chant my name was super cool and a moment I’ll cherish forever.

“It’s a sad thing to be leaving for sure.”

Randall leaves the club as an A-League Champion and will now continue the professional dream in Europe.

“Bringing him into the club as a young lad from Wellington and just watching him explode, especially this past season, has been something super cool for everyone at the club to see, and we couldn’t be prouder of Jesse,” says Auckland FC Director of Football, Terry McFlynn.

“The club is sad to see Jesse go, but we couldn’t be more excited to see what he does next. His journey is an example of the opportunities and pathways we promised to provide talented Kiwis when we started the club,” says Auckland FC CEO Nick Becker.

“Playing professionally in Europe is the opportunity of a lifetime, and we can’t wait to see which young lad will be the next to make the jump.”

Also departing the club is goalkeeping coach Johnathan Gould. Affectionately known as Gouldy, the former Coventry City and Celtic goalkeeper has made the decision to return to the UK, where his family is based.

He will be remembered for his excellent coaching, the emotional support he provided to players, as well as his love of sweets – particularly Maltesers.

Also departing from the club is Carl Edwards, Head Football Analyst. Like Gouldy, he has been at the club since the beginning.

Everyone at the club wished Jesse, Gouldy and Carl all the very best for the future, and they will always be welcomed back at Auckland FC.
