Sunny afternoons at the football are about to get a whole lot better, with Auckland FC announcing the creation of a new tailgate area where fans can get together ahead of each home game.
Located in the ‘supertop car park’ and close to Lilyworld. The AFC tailgate will feature DJs, mini-football, picnic tables, garden games, fully stocked bars and barbeques for fans to use, it promises to bring a pre-game atmosphere to every match.
Best of all, it will be right beside where the players arrive, giving fans the perfect opportunity to high-five the players as they enter the stadium.
“We often hear from fans that they want more options pre-match to meet friends and family. Fans can bring their own food, impress their friends with their culinary skills and soak up the pre-match vibes,” says Nick Becker, Auckland FC CEO.
We wanted to continue to build on last season’s fan experience at Go Media and the fans have spoken out and asked for tailgating. It’s a huge sports tradition overseas and it’s about time it took off in NZ.”
The tailgating area, currently occupied by the go-kart track and beside Lilyworld Cafe and bar, will allow fans to park up, right beside the stadium, ahead of each game.
The space will allow for carloads of fans to get together, cook, play, relax and create a fantastic atmosphere that extends right through to kick-off.
The space will open at 12pm before each home game and close at kick-off. Each spot will cost $45 + booking fee and cars cannot be left overnight.
“Sunny days spent at Go Media Stadium already make for a great afternoon out, with tailgating, we make it a great day out. Families can go from the tailgate to the Family Fan Zone to enjoying the action on the pitch. It’s a total entertainment experience and what Auckland FC is all about.”
